2011 Honda CR-Z
Honda CR-Z is a ‘gasoline-electric’ hybrid car from Honda. This is a two-passenger car with a sport bent to it. The popularity of the car model is phenomenal and the sales are expected to increase with each new modification to the existing model. Even though the model is known to be the replacement for Honda S2000 by sports car enthusiasts, that is not the case here. The Honda CR-Z is not a sports car.
CR-Z has many interpretations, one of the more popular beliefs is that it means, Compact Renaissance Zero. The small-car segment is expected to be taken with a storm by the CR-Z. It will have similarities to its older brother, the Honda Fit, that it can be called a subcompact. However, CR-Z has a lower profile than the Fit by five inches and shorter too. The model is wider that gives it a sporty look.
The car model is said to flaunt a1.5-liter 4 cylinder engine that deliver 115 to120 horsepower in addition to an electric motor that is expected to deliver 13 horsepower. The electric motor used in the model will make use of the IMA or integrated motor assist architecture that is used in the other hybrid cars from Honda. The electric motor will be placed in between the gasoline engine and transmission.
The CR-Z will be the first hybrid car to flaunt a ‘six-speed’ manual gearbox. The experience of Honda in building manual hybrids will assure that that model will have great gear transmission features. The shifter on the Honda Civic is evidence of this innovation.
According to the manufacturers, the CR-Z will make driving fun and enjoyable. It will be a clean and economical car that has all the modern amenities and meets all the safety equipment requirements. Just like the Honda CRX, the model is also expected to prove that more horsepower is not required to make driving enjoyable.
Angular housing for the lights and inverted ‘gull wing’ lower front spoiler, bring out the style that is unique to Honda cars. This will give an excellent and clean leading edge like shape to the model. The wraparound taillights and ‘triangular’ rear side windows will give the rear end of CR-Z, the shape that resembles a boat’s radar. The rear window of the model is also unique.
You can also expect the model to have an instrument panel that sports a central tachometer as well as an inset digital speedometer. The digital speedometer will give information about the engine and fuel economy along with warning lights. Most of the controls are on the stubby pods on the sides or on the multifunctional steering wheel. In spite of the small fastback styling, the clever packaging of Honda will provide great cargo space for the users.
The Honda CR-Z is expected to make it big in the small car market. In short, the Honda CR-Z is a car worth waiting ‘green’ for.
